She started with a frame and a borrowed table

Vandna trained in garment construction and then spent years doing what most tailors will not do, hand embroidery on an aari frame. Friends asked for blouses. Their sisters asked for lehngas. At some point the dining table was not enough and Poshak became a studio.

She draws every design herself, on paper, before anything is traced onto fabric. She picks the thread. She sits with the customer at the fitting. If the fall of a skirt is wrong, it goes back on the table, which is why we quote a real date instead of a hopeful one.

There is no factory behind this. There is a room in Yelenahalli with three frames, a cutting table, a lot of thread boxes, and people who have been stitching for a long time.

Every outfit starts the same way, with a conversation, then a sketch, then the frame. Vandna would rather unpick a week of embroidery and start again than send out a piece that does not sit right. She has trained the women stitching beside her the same way she trained herself, one frame, one stitch, one correction at a time, which is why the work looks the same whichever hands finished it.
